back again
My son just made his first post in months. He blamed it on some poisionous mushrooms he ate. I can't use that excuse- all the mushrooms I have eaten lately have been very good. I didn't have a new baby like Anna. I didn't start university courses like Laurie. So, why no posts for 4 months?
Frankly, I just didn't feel like it. So, now you know.
I did put some photos on file, so I'll pull them up for this post.

Here I am with my Kei (light) truck. In Japan, kei vehicles are those with a maximum engine size of 660cc (yes, like a motorcycle). This may look like a toy truck, but it's handy as pockets. It has 4 wheel drive, a bull-low gear, and good clearance, so it will go through a lot. Okay, so the rated capacity is 350kg. (770lb.-a "3/8 ton" truck), but I have hauled a lot of stuff. It's especially important now that we burn wood instead of kerosene for heating. And, it's a good second vehicle when Laurie and I are going different ways (which we do a lot).

This is what the odometer looked like on Sept. 26, 2006.

This is what it looked like on October 27, 2007.

And this is what it looked like 100 yards later.
Right now it says 5871.1. So, I average 600km (400 miles) a month.
I guess with all these statistics, this is a guy post, if you are to believe sterotypes. What do my readers think (if there are any left out there)?

a guy's post indeed. i went "huh?"
but it's quite cool to find that after those 4 months of silence, i'm finally able to put a face and person behind the posts i've been following =)
Well, I guess your truck makes up for the stove --- you end up feeding the oil barons afterall. Personally, I'd like a red convertable, but for some reason, Jun doesn't seem very enthusiastic about that idea :-)
Maybe the next time your truck dies (may the Lord delay the day) we should see if we can hack it into a wood burning kei truck. I have to admit that I truly admire the considerable discipline you showed in photographing the odometer precisely at those historical moments.
The photos required a little care, alright. Of course, both were at night when I needed a flash. What I learned from the first one was that if you don't want a Hubble telescope effect, you have to turn the engine off to take the picture.
As to feeding the oil barons, I do as much hauling as I can in tandem with other business, to double up.
Nice to have you back on blog-it's a great way for me to keep up with you.I was interested to see how far you drive as compared to living in 'the sticks' in Ontario. I generally put 30.000 km a year on my car or about 1560 miles a month! Global warming is all my fault! And I've never been out of Southern Ontario in my whole life. Go figure, eh?
Well, Jan, that's some impressive driving. I don't know what our total would be if we counted in our other car.
As to global warming, maybe it would help offset the effect of your driving if you left your fridge door open. (:p
