Jimoto no Gaijin

Who am I? Since 1985,a resident of Ajigasawa, a small town on the west coast of Honshu, Japan- yes, way up there near the top, in Aomori Prefecture. Problem? I've got the wrong face (Canadian Celt). People still give a start when they round the supermarket aisle and see me. So, who am I? Jimoto no Gaijin- the local foreigner.

Is Ignorance Bliss?

Having spent several days hacking and lifting and replacing, I thought I had the foundation problem licked. Then I talked to my friend who used to be an exterminator. I believe that, without being too discouraging, he was trying to tell me we undoubtedly have termites, too.
I can't wait to get home and check (lie).
But before I can do that, I have to chair a congregational meeting of our church and the mother church, to try to get it back on the rails.
Right up there with termites on the pop charts.
So... guess I'd better try to enjoy my week here in Chiba at the Project Timothy leadership seminar.

From my experience, people who have claimed that ignorance was bliss were (1) complacent, self-satisified, selfish people, (2) cowards who didn't want to confront truth and pretend that there wasn't something there to be fixed, thereby worsening the situation, or (3) a little bit from column A, a little bit from column B.

Ignorance is INDEED bliss, but that's a half-truth, and a half-truth is worse than a blatant lie. It should read "ignorance is bliss, for a while."
